Exploring Germany Walking, waiting, sun and rain On sunday morning it was time to start a mission with unknown end. The aim: Explore (the typical?!) Germany. So the multinational group of 60 people made their way down to Mainz Hauptbahnhof to take the train to Bingen. There quite a few got real strange impressions of the Germans - recycling bins - separating litter??? These Germans have ideas... After some delays we got to Bingen and there changed onto a ship going downstream to St. Goar. Even if the weather was not really summer-like and most preferred to stay inside the ship quite a few things were seen - many castles, water, town and camping sites. And now everybody more or less interrested knows that th name of the Mäuseturm has nothing to do with the mice in there. Cool, but is that Germany know? Is this mission's ends? No. After arrival in St. Goar some very motivated individuals decided to go uphill to "Fortress Rheinfels". Only the Danish disappeard suddenly - last they were seen in front of a small supermarked... The others started to explore the castle and went down into the dark undergruond. Nobody probaly discovered the real Germany down there but it was still quite some fun. After having seen every corner of the castle at least once and a discussion of where to put litter if there is no recycling bin (...) most of us returned to the city where the Danish group met up in a pub and I am sure the French and German groups had fun as well before returning to Mainz by train. Germany discovered? Not necessarily - but most of us had fun and got at least an impression af the area around here. |
